Lars Mikkelsen3-765x1024At age 27, he entered the National Theatre School of Denmark from which he graduated in 1995. He also appeared in The Killing, a drama series that aired worldwide. He later appeared in Borgen III and Those Who Kill two critically popular Danish drama series. He also played a major role in the BBC drama Sherlock in which he played the blackmailer Charles Augustus Magnussen. In the American television series House of Cards, he played the president of Russia. He won an International Emmy Award in 2018 for his part in Danish TV drama Herrens Veje, which was shown in the UK in 2019 as Ride in the Storm.In addition to his native Danish, Mikkelsen speaks fluent Swedish, German and English as well as mastering several accents. According to Mikkelsen's statement his sources, he learned English from his brother by listening to Monty Python recordings and watching the sketches of comedy.
